Wave Size and Shape

The SwellSpot Richmond wave pool is organized into 8 areas according to skill level.

The advanced area will offer A-frame waves that measure up to 7′ (2m) on the face of the wave. The waves will run left and right for 75 yards, which equates to 6-10 seconds of surfing. The shape of the wave will vary, thanks to the adjustability of SwellSpot technology, ranging from mellow open faces to high-performance waves with a vertical lip.

The intermediate breaks will offer lefts and rights that measure up to 4′ (1.2m) on the face of the wave. They will run for about 40 yards, which translates to about 6 seconds of surfing. The shape of the wave will accomodate surfers learning to go down the line and dialing in their first turns.

The beginner breaks will be ideal for kids and adults learning the basics. Whitewater rollers measuring 2-3′ will provide early surfers with 30-yard rides which translates to about 5 seconds of surfing.

Frequency and Capacity

SwellSpot Richmond is planning to host 120 surfers per one-hour session. Using the patented SwellSpot modular plunger technology, they plan to produce 300 swells per hour, each of which breaks across all zones. That means each surfer should get around 12 waves per hour. Beginners, who will share waves, will get even more if they are up for it.
