SURF ERA Starts Design and Feasibility Studies + New Images

The team behind the SURF ERA wave pool planned for Berlin engaged architects to begin detailed design and feasibility studies. Architects from Grimshaw and engineers from Schlaich Bergermann Partners (SBP) will carry the project forward to refine the vision for the Berlin wave pool.

The 15-acre (62,500 m²) facility centered around a 5-acre (2.25 hectare) wave pool will produce waves suitable for beginners, practicing professionals and everyone in between. While the SURF ERA team has not publicly committed to any wave pool technology, the renderings all suggest they will be using Wavegarden Cove technology. According to Eirik Randow, the founder of SURF ERA, American Wave Machines PerfectSwell is also under consideration.

The SURF ERA team also shared updated renderings of the wave pool. The stunning renderings shown above come from the winners of a competition amongst university students. The winning team of Masters students, from the Technical University of Darmstadt (TUD) are:

  • Lukas Bernhardt
  • Christian Brönner
  • Otto Closs
  • Aki Käppeler
