Surfworks Adventure Park

A Wavegarden Cove Surf Park

Average Reviews

Description

American Surf Parks is bringing a Wavegarden Cove to Myrtle Beach. The Surfworks Adventure Park will include a “full size” Cove wave pool that will cover 5 acres. It will produce waves measuring 2-6′ high on the face of the wave. The waves will vary in shape and size to accommodate beginner, intermediate and advance surfers.

The Wavegarden Cove technology is famous for its ability to crank out 1000 waves per hour, but based on other Cove installations like The Wave in Bristol, we expect each surfer to ride 12-15 waves in a one-hour session.

In addition to the surf sessions and lessons, the 17-acre plans include a zip line, rock walls, pools, restaurant, bar, surf shop and 100-room hotel. The plans also call for an amphitheater that will accommodate up to 15,000 people.

Once operational, Surfworks Adventure Park would boost the local economy by creating 50 full-time jobs. The city would bring in nearly $450k per year in tax revenues.

The team hopes to open the wave pool to the public by 2021.

History

Phil Dixon, co-founder of American Surf Parks, started working on Surfworks Adventure Park pool in October 2016.

In August 2019, Myrtle Beach City Council approved a motion to enter into a letter of intent with American Surf Parks, LLC to lease the property adjacent to the Myrtle Beach Sports Center for the development of a surf park and an amphitheater.

The team from American Surf Parks is now working on funding the project. When funding is secured, they would work on signing a lease with the city before construction could commence.

The team hopes to have Surfworks Adventure Park by 2021.
