Inside of the $5 billion American Dream mega-mall in the Meadowlands is a wave pool powered by American Wave Machines PerfectSwell® technology. The wave pool is part of the DreamWorks Water Park in the mall. The wave pool and the water park are going through final commissioning and they open to the public in April 2020.
Wave Size and Shape
Like other PerfectSwell installations, the shape and size of the wave depends on which wave the operator selects from the menu loaded into the PerfectSwell control system. The menu at American Dream includes a wedge that offers a quick barrel section and a few ramps that offer great air opportunities. Left and right-hand waves provide surfers with rides that last between 5 and 8 seconds.
The wave can start off with a peak that measures 5 feet high on the face of the wave, but the size quickly diminishes to 3-4 feet.
The Pool
The 1.5 acre American Dream wave pool uses 16 chambers along a 160-foot wall to produce a variety of waves. For comparison, the 2-acre PerfectSwell installation at BSR Surf Resort in Waco has 24. The result is a slightly smaller, shorter wave than Waco. But, American Dream claims the wave pool will be the largest wave pool in the world, and it will be heated for year-round surfing in board shorts and bikinis.
Other details about the wave are hard to come by, including information about the sessions, capacity and the cost.
