Wadi Adventure

Wadi Adventure is an adventure water park in the United Arab Emirates that is home to the wave pool that was made famous in 2012 by Dion Agius in Electric Blue Heaven.

The Wadi Adventure wave pool uses Murphy’s Waves technology which lifts and then drops water to produces rights and lefts that are 2m (6.5 feet) high on the face of the wave. The wave doesn’t barrel, but the lip can stand up on occasion and when it doesn’t the wave still offers plenty of cut-back opportunities. Most waves end with a close out section that provides a good opportunity for practicing airs.

The longer waves, which run from one side of the pool to another, can be ridden for about 8 seconds. If the operator dials up a close-out air section, then the ride is about 4 seconds.

Each one hour session will cost you an $18 (USD) entry fee plus $48 for one hour in the wave pool. With a maximum of six surfers in a session, each surfer can expect 6 waves per session (3 lefts, 3 rights). For $460, you and your friends can a private one-hour session and control the wave settings yourself.

The Murphy’s Waves installation at Wadi Adventure uses five pumps to fill ten chambers with water at the deep end (back) of the pool. Filling takes about 90 seconds. Then gates at the bottom of each chamber open to allow the water in the chambers to escape into the deep water which creates the swell that travels toward the shallows. Varying the timing of the gate opening is what allows the pool operator to create various wave shapes.

The wave pool itself is filled with 2.8 million gallons of water.

The wave pool is just one of many attractions at Wadi Adventure. Other activities include white water rafting, an aerial obstacle course, ziplines, a giant swing and climbing wall.

History

In 2012, Wadi Adventure opened its doors and showed the world what the latest, greatest wave generation technology could do. Dion Agius starred in the award winning short film Electric Blue Heaven which is required watching in this author’s opinion. It was followed up by “Out of Bounds” starring Jack Freestone and Chippa Wilson.

The pool has hosted a few contests and jam sessions since then including the first “Just add Volcom” Surf and Skate Jam in May, 2013.
