Siheung Surf Park

A Giant Wavegarden Cove in South Korea

Average Reviews

Description

Sihueng Surf Park is a giant Wavegarden Cove wave pool under construction in Siheung, South Korea. Its part of a massive $2.3B USD mixed-use development that will included a hotel, convention center, marina and ferris wheel.

While little is known about the specifics of the wave pool, its certain that surfers of all levels will find waves that appeal to them. The productivity of Wavegarden Cove technology is also clearly understood: they can produce 1000 waves per hour.

Assuming the Wavegarden Cove installation will be similar to others (like The Wave in Bristol or URBNSURF Melbourne), those waves will break differently in various parts of the pool. Areas will be designated to beginner, intermediate and advanced surfers. Surfers in the Advanced areas will be ride waves that offer barrel, turn and air opportunities. Intermediate surfers will tune their turning on nice, open face walls. Beginners will learn the basics on knee high whitewater rollers.

Daewon Plus Construction, one of South Korea’s largest real estate and theme park developers, is leading the construction efforts under the watchful eye of Wavegarden. Phase 1 of construction, which includes the wave pool, is expected to be completed in 2020.

Given the size of the wave pool and additional water features, water filtration is particularly challenging. Wavegarden claims that they will be using an innovative, proprietary water treatment system to handle the huge body of water and all the people in it.
