Surfland Brasil

Wave Pool, Resort and Timeshares

Average Reviews

Description

Surfland Brasil is a planned resort and condo community centered around a 6-acre Wavegarden Cove installation. The project is currently in planning, but construction is schedule to start around the end of 2019. If everything goes as planned, Surfland plans to open in 2023.

Wave Size and Shape

The Surfland Brasil wave pool will produce left and right-hand waves up to 6 feet (1.9m) high on the face of the wave on the primary wave, the “Reef”. Thanks to the flexibility of Wavegarden Cove, Surfland Brasil will have 9 different types of waves pre-programmed into the pool’s control system that vary in shape and size. Advanced and intermediate surfers can expect barrel, turn and air sections on the Reef. The length of ride along the 150m Reef wave will be 16 seconds.

After passing the primary reef, the wave will reform to smaller waves in the “Bay” that are ideal for beginners.

The waves are going to be similar to waves at the Wavegarden R&D center in Spain (shown below), except longer and more numerous.

Productivity and Capacity

Like most Wavegarden Cove installations, Surfland can produce one wave every 8 seconds on each side of the pier. That equals 450 waves per hour on each side, max. With a maximum of 20 surfers on each side of the pier sharing those waves, each surfer would get up to 22 waves per hour. However, Surfland says their sessions will only include 50 minutes of water time, so the actual max will be closer to 19 waves per surfer per hour. That’s still relatively high compared to similar facilities. Meanwhile, Fernando Odriozola, one of Wavegarden’s directors, told Hardcore Magazine that Surfland surfers should expect 10-15 waves per hour.

Owners who buy into the time-share plans described below will have access to two daily dedicated reef and bay surf sessions that are “owners only”.

Outside the Wave Pool

Surfland Brasil is a resort and condominium development covering a total 115 acres (47 hectares). The partial ownership (time share) strategy allows people to own a fraction of an apartment. Each fraction entitles the owner to 2 weeks of access, per year, for life. Individual fractions start $85,000 Real ($21,000 USD) for a 45 square meter apartment and larger units run about $29,500 USD. As of mid-2019, 1300 people were already on ownership waiting list.

In addition to the wave pool and condominiums, Surfland will offer a variety of other activities including a skate park designed by Pedro Barros (world-famous skater), tennis, soccer, yoga, and a gym. Between activities, customers will be able to relax at one of three restaurants or the spa while the kids play in the a 500 square meter playground.

The $250 million Real ($61 million USD) project is backed by Gabriel Medina and other professional Brazilian surfers, but the team is working on support from the local community who will benefit from hundreds of jobs that the project creates.

Environmental Protection

Surfland Brasil is planning a facility that will preserve and protect the environment. Plans include reusing rainwater, green roofs and solar panels that will heat the pools and generate electricity.

The plans also include 300,000 m² of preserved forest.

The complex already has environmental licenses and the local city permit and the registration of incorporation of the registry office. Construction is scheduled to start soon and the project is expected to take 3-4 years to complete. The team hopes to open in 2023. We’ll keep you posted.
