Alaïa Bay is wave pool in the town of Sion, in the Valais area of Switzerland. It’s currently under construction with plans to open in 2021, which would make it the first Wavegarden Cove installation in Switzerland.
Alaïa SA is the company behind Alaïa Bay. They also operate the Alaïa Chalet, a boarsports complex.
Alaïa SA started construction on the Alaïa Bay wave pool in November 2019. The wave pool will cover an area of 8500m3 (2.1 acres).
The co-founder of Alaïa, Adam Bonvin, says the pool will generate waves up to 6′ tall (1.8m) on the face of the wave when construction is complete. Similar to The Wave in Bristol, advanced areas on both sides of the central pier will produce high-performance left and right-hand waves with barrel, air and critical turn sections. Those waves will reform into smaller waves that appeal beginner surfers.
We can also assume that the capacity and productivity of the Alaïa Bay wave pool will be similar to other Wavegarden Cove installations, so surfer can expect 12-15 waves in each one-hour session.
The $15-20 million CHF ($15-20 million USD) construction project started in November of 2019. If construction goes as planned, it will open to the public in 2021.
