Plans Revealed and Rejected for NLand Conversion to Slater Wave Pool

On October 17th, the city of Austin rejected plans the WSLs plans to convert NLand into a Kelly Slater Wave Co. (KSWC) facility.

Back in August, the WSL submitted their plans to the city. The details of those plans recently surfaced and on austintexas.gov. Unfortunately for the WSL/KSWC team, the plans were rejected for a variety of reasons related to drainage, environmental impact, water quality and others.

Most of the reasons cited for rejection appeared to be administrative (e.g. missing report and inspection records), so we expect and hope that the WSL team will quickly resubmit the application and get the approval to move forward.

As seen in the land plan above, the KSWC pool is longer but skinnier than the NLand pool. The KSWC pool is 1900 feet long and the NLand pool is 1090 feet long.

The plans also appear to show a one-sided KSWC wave pool, just like the Surf Ranch in Lemore.

Also notable are the slightly larger, flared ends of the pool. Could there be plans for a beginners wave at either end of each pool? Doubtful, but time will tell, so stay tuned.
