More waves, and a few moved rocks, at Southern Ocean Surf Reef

An abnormally large storm managed to moved some of the boulders that make up the Souther Ocean Surf Reef in Middleton, WA.

According to ABC Great Southern, beachgoers noticed some of the rocks moved closer to the beach and surfaced as seen in the photo above.

Peter Bolt from Albany Boardriders was quoted by ABC Great Southern saying “Once the reef is finished it will have armor rock over all the areas of the reef, the bigger rock will be over the whole lot,”

According to Mr. Bolt the rock that moved was the “core” rock, which is smaller than the “armor” rocks that will be placed on top of the core rock as construction nears completion.

On a positive note, social media is starting to claim rides at the reef, which is more than 60% complete. The management team expects construction to be completed in June.
