Surf Lakes 5 Waves on the Gold Coast

Average Reviews

Description

Surf Lakes is planning to build their first commercial facility on the Gold Coast of Australia and open it to the public in early 2022.

While very little is know about the specifics of the wave pool, its a safe bet that it will use Surf Lakes 5 Waves technology like the prototype in Yeppoon. If that is the case, the Surf Lakes facility on the Gold Coast will produce waves that vary in shape in size. The pool will have 4 A-frame breaks up to 2.4m (8 feet) high on the face of the waves for advanced and intermediate surfers. Assuming the at least as big as the prototype, it will offer left and right rides between 7 and 12 seconds long.

Beginners will be able to practice on whitewater rollers on the inside of the primary waves.

The exact location of the Surf Lakes facility on the Gold Coast is not known. However the Surf Lakes team did disclose that the location is likely to use an existing lake which would be reshaped to provide the bathymetry necessary to create good waves.

Instead of licensing out their technology to a development company, the Surf Lakes team is taking this project on themselves. The facility on the Gold Coast is expected to cost between $30 and $40M USD including land and surrounding infrastructure.
